Brand and Packaging Refresh
Spirit Thief Distilling Co.
This curated single malt collection from Spirit Thief is a rare series of Tasmanian-released whiskies matured in hand-picked, locally charred and re-coopered red wine barrels for a distinctive and complementary palate, flavour and character.
Design and Strategy Aligned With Vision.
The project team implemented a full strategic review of the existing brand, products, and market aspirations for the brand; which in turn led to a well-informed and structured approach to the rollout of project milestones.
We worked extensively with the brand owners at Spirit Thief forming a collaboration to achieve their vision; producing a premium, and richly constructed brand and package design.
Drawing inspiration from vintage wax-stamped spirit bottles, the Spirit Thief logo captures the essence of the brand’s message: ‘Guard your honour… honour your spirit.’ The design cleverly integrates a whisky thief – traditionally a tubular copper tool used by master distillers to sample whisky – to evoke the image of crossed swords, symbolising strength and craft.
Crafting Distinctive, Premium Packaging.
By leveraging existing supplier relationships, and bolstering these supply chains by forging connections with new print and packaging specialists, we were able to advocate for the consistency and premium quality cues this project required.
This attention to detail is exhibited by the label design, bespoke premium packaging and custom embossed glass mould, accentuating the overall presentation, culminating into an attractive, and unified presentation for the brand, rewarding the curiosity of customers.
Unmistakable heavy metal branded labels carry the brand aspirations to a growing legion of followers, and both the distinctly coloured varietal label and roundel are accented by heavy-embossed detail, bringing tactility and interest.
The proprietary glass bottle for Spirit Thief was crafted to balance tactility, intrigue, and the seamless integration of brand elements. Its sleek, minimalist design is delicate yet strikingly confident, making it an ideal choice for collectors or premium gifting.
The immediately attractive series is further complemented by limited edition wooden presentation boxes, uniquely numbered and beautifully-crafted in South Australia’s Barossa Valley, purpose-built to house the exceptional release of single malt whiskies.
Creating Connections and Amplifying Impact.
Building upon our branding and packaging work, we provided additional support to amplify the reach of Spirit Thief’s premium brand identity.
We extended the Spirit Thief brand across multiple touchpoints, including point-of-sale materials like shelf wobblers, trade brochures, and pull-up banners. Direct-to-consumer marketing efforts reinforced this with flyers, emails, special offers, mail-outs, and membership-exclusive content.
As part of our direct-to-consumer campaign, we supported the launch of the Spirit Thief Vanguard Club by introducing member-exclusive touchpoints, including personalised mail-outs, bespoke key rings, and a pre-release waitlist.
These thoughtful inclusions helped Spirit Thief foster deeper relationships with customers, cultivating loyalty and reinforcing the brand’s premium positioning.
Testimonial.
“What makes a great creative agency is not just their ability to design eye-catching labels that make you look twice, but a fully integrated understanding of what an independent spirits business actually needs when bringing products to market.
When I first appointed Jody Tucker and his team… it was because of their wealth of experience in specialising in beverage product design. Three years later, together, we achieved World’s Best Design at the World Whisky Awards in London.
As the client, you can’t underestimate the importance of having a partnership to advise in everything from designing an efficient bottling process to taking your products to export markets. By using their networks to source quotes from different countries around the globe, Tucker was able to ensure the quantity and the quality of each aspect of our design, ensuring it was the best option for our business.
If you already have products in market, or are in the planning phase of your products, or are just curious about your creative options, it’s never too early (or too late) to consider how best to represent your brand. Be it on the shelf, behind the bar, online, in social media feeds or at exhibitions and trade shows domestically and internationally.”
